Helpful civil ceremony explanations
- In Aruba, the legalities must take place within the confines of the civil town house, (a beautifully restored historic building), prior to the beach or other location blessing. It’s the Dutch Law! This wedding is legally accepted throughout the European Union.
- The Civil Town House is open for these legalities Monday through Friday from 10am through 11:30 noon and from 1.30 pm to 3:30 pm and on Saturdays from 11.00 am through 1.30pm. Surcharges apply for Saturday Civil Weddings. Closed on Sunday’s and Holidays (please check with us as to the holidays on island as they will be different to the ones in other countries)
- Proper attire is required at the civil town hall. No shorts, slippers, or cut-offs. Thus no beach attire please. Most couples opt for a Sun- or simple cocktail dress for the ladies, and slacks and a buttoned up shirt for the men. Full wedding attire is also a possibility but not a must.
- The legal marriage certificate that you will sign at the civil house will be translated into English after which we have to send it to our judicial department in Aruba for a Dutch Apostille. It normally takes from 4 to 6 weeks for us to get these documents back from the local authorities. Once we receive the documents back we will send these to you by International courier. You will have to wait to make your name changes etc. till this “translated and apostilled” marriage certificate is returned to you.
